Uganda rural development training program –URDT has launched a cervical cancer project in Kakumiro district.

This followed the expired contract of three years work in Kagadi district where the Project started from.

The launching function which took place yesterday was held at Barrack hotel in Kakumiro town, Kakumiro district

According to the URDT cervical cancer project coordinator Lucy Kasiime, the Project intended to benefit over 1000 women will also last for 3 years in Kakumiro district

However, Kasiime says despite the official launch of the project in the district, the screening of women exercise will  start in November this year after creating  awareness among the public especially women about the dangers of the virus.

She called upon men to mobilize their wives to attend cervical cancer screening exercises which will be taking place at all the designated health facilities in the district.

Among the dignitaries who attended the cervical cancer project launch was Dr.Caroline Nakisige from Uganda Cancer institute Kampala who later visited different Kakumiro health center 111’s. These included Nalweyo health center, Kakindo health center, and Kisita Health Center among others

On behalf of URDT, Dr. Mwalimu Musheshe the founder and vice-chancellor of African rural university (ARU) asked the people of Kakumiro district to own the project if it is to be sustained in the area for a long period of time.   

During the same function, the Kakumiro district healthy officer (DHO) Senteza Robert Augustine who highly welcomed the cervical cancer screening project by URDT in the district promised total support during its implementation

He asked the people of Kakumiro to see the Project as a blessing in their district by emulating its programs
